COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENTAL, ECONOMIC, AND HEALTH BENEFITS IMPROVED AS A RESULT OF AN INCLUSIVE TOURISM SECTOR IN THE TARGETED AREAS

The USAID Ecotourism Activity is focused on the identification, planning, and development of tourism experiences, products, and services that directly contribute to local economic benefits, environmental protection, cultural preservation, as well as to health, and gender equality. Business plans will be created for tourism enterprises and product concepts that will both chart a way forward for developing those products and services, as well as serve as instrumental tools in attracting and securing any necessary funding through financial assistance programs, joint ventures, philanthropy, and private investors.

Efforts will also be made to integrate local suppliers of ancillary products such as agricultural producers into the tourism supply chain to improve economic linkages. Extensive training programs will be developed and tailored to the destination that builds the capacity of local communities to be successful in the service-oriented field of tourism.

This will be achieved through three key intermediate results:

      IR 3.1

Improved local governance of natural resources and community tourism development through established Sundarbans Eco Villages program

      IR 3.2

Increased economic opportunities for community members

      IR 3.3

Improved public services and community benefits resulting from increased support from tourism and community-based natural resource management
